SETTLERS IN ENGLAND.
Australian Government officials in London have unexpectedly had to deal with many cases of Australian soldiers who have grown so fond of the English climate that they wish to settle there. '•Some of these aspirants are Australians born," said an official at Australia House. "They regard the British climate from the broader point of view than that of the man who just curses the weather because it interferes with his day's outing. They incline to the view that sinco there is no I drought in this country and there is a j good deal of snnshine, the English j climate on the whole is as good as can j be obtained anywhere. Their main oh- j jection is to tho humidity of the climate, not to the cold. Our Resettlement Department is not making it too easy for Australians to settle here. It is our practice to grant only two to six months' extended leave to men ' who can got good employment or are , I learning a profession or trade which ; will bo of advantage _to tbem when they return to Australia. Our esperf- | once is that most Australians born who have settled in England during the past ; j ten or twenty years return to Austra- j lia within about oight years at most."
