An Auckland telegram aimounccs the death of Mr William J Speight, diocesan secretary, and M.P. for AucK land East in 1879. Ho waa 74 years ot age. Although not successful from the point of discovering a goidiield, the party located an 11011 deposit, and quite recently he received a communication from, the Italian uovcrn m-ent enquiring if he was prepared to return to that fie:d at the end < f tiie war.
