Experiments were made showing how. different lenses changed tho rays' of light to different planes, and of the *U6o to which these lon&eo were put. Thoso resultant rays, however, showed colours which were objectionable to those dealing in lenses, but they could bo neutralised by using other combinations. The lechirer then compared the structure of the telescope with that of the microand it was pointed out that the only essential difference between them was that the telescope was a combination of a microscope and a double convex and double concave lens. The focal length of a simple lens could be determined by multiplying the distance between the source of light and the lens with that between tho lens and the screen on which tho focus was obtained, divided b'y tho sum of the two distances.
