A meeting of ratepayers in the Kowai County; Council's south riding will be held in the Sefton Kink to-night at 8 o'clock, to consider a proposal that tho coat of Peace celebrations for the riding bo paid out of rates. • # - Entries for the Oxford Show on April 3rd closo to-day. Entries bearing to-day's poet-' mark will be accepted. The annual ehow ; of the Amuri A. nnd P. Association will be held on-April 3rd. Entries closo on Saturday next. Mr J. McCombSj M.P., will speak on "Labour and tho Xiiquor > Beferendum'' in the, Trades Hall, Gloucester street, to-night; at tho Itangiorsv Institute on Monday; and at Kuiapoi Oddfellows' Hall on Tuesday.' A 'series of meetings in connexion'with the . 2?o-license campaign .will bo held in the Huriuvui electorate-during the coming we»k. ' Tho Eev. J. Paterson will speak at Cheviot, Spotawood, Parnassus; and Kaikoura, and tho Bev.'vVal Triggo will speak at Ashley Unnk, North Loburo," and Amberley. The harvest eeryces of the Selwyn street South Methodist Church will be held to-morrow. Tho preachers will be 15r' Stout in the mornipg and tho Rev. T. W. Vealio in tho evening. The recent Methodist Confer* cuco having appointed the Eev. Mr Yealie to tho Ashburton circuit, this will be his last scrvico at Selwyn street. South Church before leaving for his new appointment. A meeting of the Council of the Canterbury Progress League will be held in the Y.M.C.A. buildings on Wednesday,, at 11.30 aju. Luncheon will.be served at 1 p.m. A public meeting will bo held in the Council office, Waikari, on Wednesday "at 7.80' p.m.j for the purpose of dismissing matters (dating to the memorial to the late Dp - i.ittle. At the Drill Hall, Temuka, on April 15th,, tho Canterbury Farmers' Co-op. Association will sell .by. public auction the Trevenna Estate, of 000 acres, in ten subdivisions, rang-, ing from 14 acres to 50 acres. ' The estate, is situated only four miles from the Temuka Railway Station, and exceptionally easy terms will bo offered: Ratepayers of tho Halswell County are notified that rates outstanding after March 26th will be sued for without further notice, in additional 10 per cent, will be charged an rates owing to the Ashley County Council unpaid on tho 29th inst. In connexion with the Ashburton show and xaces. the Railway. Department notifies that on Thursday the afternoon train from Ashburton to Christchurch will' leave at 5.10 p.m., reaching the saleyards siding at 5.20, and arriving in Christchnroh at 8.10. On this, and the succeeding two days the mornifir train from Christchurch to Ashburton will sot down passengers, if required, at the Ashburton saleyards siding. On Friday and Saturday a special train taking passengers from Christchurch and Bakaia, and setting? any that so require down at the Ashburton saleyards siding (for the racecourse), will leave ' Christchuroh at 9.20 aon., Bakaia at 10.25, and arrive at Ashburton at 10.55 a.m. A return train, picking tig at the Ashburton saleyards siding and setting down where required north of Dromore, will leave Ashburton at 5 p.m., the saleyards siding at 5.8, and arrive in Christchurch at 7.15 pjn. Season * and commutation tickets and free posses will not be valid on this train.
