THE WEATHER.
WELCOME SHOWERS
After a beautiful morning yesterday, a strong nor'-wester got up about 11.30, which changed to a sou'-wester, fftra between 2 and 3 p.m. very heavy showers of rain fell. Later on in the afternoon the weather cleared again, but further rain fell between 11 o'clock and midnight. Itain is needed all over Canterbury at the present time, and farmers would bo glad to see a steady downpour. At ofrout 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon a "very heavy thunderstorm accompanied by a strong wind, and followed by torrential rain, was experienced at Akarca. However, it did nofc last long, and left the locality as calm as it had been_befor^.,its.JK*sUiTence.
