Upon examination by a Customs officcr the ginger was found. Graham explained that he Had taken the ginger from the deok of a vessel. The Magistrate, after examining the package of stolon ginger, remarked that it was very clear the ginger had been converted into sweepings ior the purpose of stealing it. That was a common practice, and he himself had seen it done by watersiders roughly handling cases of goods. He had torn up and thrown into the gutter without reading it a summons which had subsequently been served upon him. The Magistrate said that Graham had evidently been determined to break the order and defy the law. He would have to pay for it now.
