* AN EXPERT'S RECOMMENDATIONS. tPBESS ASSOCIATION' TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, March 11. Giving evidence before tho Northern Fisheries' Commission, L. F. Ayson, Chief Inspector of Fisheries, said that for tho purpose of assisting the fishormen at present engaged, and encouraging more fishermen to engago in fishing, ho mado the following recommendations : — (1) That the Government should advance money to fishermen for tho purchase of boats- and fishing outfits. (2) Insurance of fishermen's boats by tho State. («'5) The erection of fish-chilling and ice-making plants in outlying parts of the coast, so as to prevent loss of fiisli during warm weather, and ensuro all fish reaching the markets in a perfectly fresh condition.
(4) Admitting all fishing nots, netting twine, fishing hooks, and lines and all fishing gear into the Dominion free of duty.
(5) Encourage fishermen to go in for purseseining by a practical demonstration of the use of this net on the various fishing grounds around the coast. By this method fish can bo taken in very large quantities, and at a small cost, in comparison to trawling..
(6) Giving a bonus on fish canned and cured for export, and also on tho production of fertiliser manufactured from fish offal and unmarketable fish, and for tho manufacture of potash and other products from kelp und seaweod. (7) Jhat the Government assist in procuring the necessary supplies of benzine, lubricating oil, nets, netting twine, hooks, lines, and othor material.
