iIEETIXG OF BOARD OF GOVERNORS
The Board of Governors of the C'hrlstchurch , Technical College met la«t night. Present—Mr G. Scott (chairman), Mrs A. Wells, Hon. J. Barr,. Messrs J. A. Black, T. P. Boag, H. Cooper, W. R. Gahagau. J. K. Hayward, V. Hayward, C. Israelson, A.Jeans, W. Jones, J. McCnllough, C. H. Opie. S. C. Owen, H. Rusbridge, A. Williams, W. J. Wills, H. and McGregor Wright On the recommer/Jation of the Finance Committee it wae decided to invest a further •am of £500 in War Bonds on account of >the Old Boys' Memorial. The chairman's report drew attention to tHo forward step taken by the Government during last session in the matter of technical »nd continuation education iu the placing of Power in the hands of the Minister to establish compulsory classes to be held during the daytime. The report embodied the reof the educational expert ecnf down by
the Department. His report contained many expressions of approval of the work of the College stafl. On the ir.st day the school enrolled 568 mipils, as against 513 in 191 S.
The report was adopted. « The Director' 3 repast elated the capitation returns showed that tha .'inancicl position for last year was very satisfactory. Over and above the progress payments made by the las: year on account of capitation. there was still about £1000 due to th? Technical High School. It seemed likely that there would be a considerable for instruction in connexion with the educational training of returned soldiers, and * i' might be necessary to get additional relic! for the staff in order to copa with the work. For instruction in agriculture alone -S returned soldiers had sent in their names, but when the medical officer revised th-e list these numbers may be considerably cut down.
The report was adopted. The Chamber of Commerce- wrote forwarding the resolution passed at the :eccnt meeting of the Chamber declining any further contribution towards the support or the Technical College The letter was received.
A resolution was passed regretting that the Heathcote County Council had placed an interpretation upon the prayer in use at the Co.lege which I'-'as not intended by the author. U:. Tctnole.
On the recomu.endation of th<> chairman it was <.ecid-:d to set up a special committee, consisting o: Oie Buildings and Trades Committees, to consider t'i» question of further extensions to ike College.
