They presume that he has assumed the command of the Soviet army. THE RIOTING IN BERLIN. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) AMSTIiRDAM, December 2U. The most serious episode of the Christmas rioting was the arrest of Ebert and his colleagues. They were held captive in tbeir own offices, and haggled over the marines' terms, but finally accepted them. The Government's position was further wearcenod when the Guards sought to overpower the marines, but Ebert, hearing of the coup d'otat_, intervened, and requested the troops to return to Potsdam. The whole affair was a victory for the sailors and a defeat for the Government, -whose loss of prestige is so "great that a Cabinet crisis is inevitable.
