Replying to the toast of "The Institute of Journalists" at a Leeds luncheon, following a conference, Mr J. ju. Garvin, president of the institute, and editor of the London "Observer," said that the Press had been much criticised, mostly by persons who knew very little about it. He ventured to state that if the Press were to cease operations it would be like a perfect eclipse by day, and a total stoppage cf gas and electricity by night.
