DUNEDIN, December 27
The Acting-Prime Minister (Sir James Allen) has received the following Christmas message from Mr W. M. Hughes, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth, who is at present in London: —"On behalf of the Government and people or Australia, mav I send hearty Christmas greetings? Thanks to the valour of the soldiers of -New Zealand, who, side by side with the Allies, endured four years of terrible war, we can this Christmas look out upon a world at peace. Let uj» who have been saved, by our bravo soldiers dedicate ourselves to the great work of building up again on the foundations of their glorious victory a new* world worthy of their valour and sacrifice, and from which war shall be for ever banished." Sir James Allen forwarded the following reply:—"The people of_ New Zealand thank you for your Christmas message. With von they rejoice in the knowledge that right has triumphed, and remember with thankful pride the part played by Australia and New Zealand in this tremendous war of principles. May tho task of reconstruction, ■with which our people are faced, be met in tho same spirit of courage and determination as that which has given our troops victory against an implacable foe."
