CASUALTIES.
INQUEST. On ■Wednesday evening a man named Duncan .VlcVicar, agod uJ, found dead at Trovorton Aslibmton, with a sack over his face. The body was removed to the morgue, where an inquest was held yesterday morning be 3lr James Cow, district coroner. Dr. C. E. ltussel ltendle,. who mailo a post mortem examination, said aeat.i was due to a combination ot l»n<j trouble, alcohol, and exposure. The ■ principal witness, James r • Wilson,.a neighbour of deceased statea that ho supplied him with a bottleitil whiskv. for which he received lis. -Ueecased and witness had one drink each, when deceased complained of pains m tho chest, aud lay down outside putting a sack over his face to keep off the sun When witness returned homo m tin. evening at 9 o'clock, ho found deceased lying in the same place as when ho Jett at 1 p.m. Witness said he did not know what bccame of the balance of the whiskv, which Senior Sergeant Hyan said could not bo found in the evening. A verdict was returned m accordanco with the medical testimony.

HAMILTON, December 27.. C. Banks was riding a motorcycle, with a passenger named Burton in a sido-ear, when he crashed into a train on the Claudelands crossing, tins morning. -Dunks was badly injure about the feet and body and was taUen to the hospital. The passenger miraculously escaped serious injury. * MASTEPvTOX, December -<• Tlie -mail coach - running between Maaterton-and Castlepoint met with aw accident on Blairlogie Hill to-day. . it> met a cart, which overturned, causing tho coach horses to swerve and carry the ooach over the hill. All the passengers escaped, with the, exception ot Mr J. 11. Camp-bell, manager of lea station, who suffered concussion of tho brain from w'hich lie died. WELLINGTON, December 2-. At tho inquest-on the body of thci barmaid, Jean Hunter, a verdict was returned that death was due to injuries received bv deceased having jumped on to the roof of. Pearson's wine store, while temporarily insane. INVKRCATUxILL, Deeemoer 2/. A Swedish fisherman named Johnson, single, aged 40, was drowned at Stewart Island on Christmas night through falling overboard from a launch during a heavy swell.
