RACING AND TROTTING NOTES. (Br "Looeeb-On.") Korcinations for the South Canterbury Jockey Club's Summer Meeting close (it 8 o'clock this evening. Acceptances lor the Southland - Racing Club's Summer Meeting, the Wyndham BaoIng Club's Annual Meeting, and the Greymouth Jockey Club'a Midsummer Meeting . are due to-morrow. ■. Martian's stock continue to win honours for their sire in important races. In the Auckland Cup yesterday two of his renreeentatires, Mascot and Sasanof, finished first and second, and Nanna, another of his get, won the Railway Handicap. Mascot, who is by Martian—Mar? of Argyle, is a sister to Ardenvokr, winner oi the. .Now Zealand Cup in 1916. Solfanella, winner of the Nursery Handicap at Auckland yesterday, is the first of the stock of the imported sire Solferino to win a race in the Dominion. v (Br "Searchlight.") Acceptances for the Canterbury Park Trotting Club's Summer Meeting close at noon to-day. The grass track at New Brighton will be open to-morrow for horses engaged at the Canterbury Park and New Brighton Summer Meetings. Albert Cling, winner of the Aahburton. Trotting Cup Handicap yesterday, went a fine race. The Oamaru-owned pacer loot fully three eeconda at the 6tart, and at the end of a mile was running fifth some distance I behind the leading division. There is no doubt as lo his staying ability, as ovor the last half he showed a fine turn of epeed, and easily accounted for Rorke's Drift and Sympathy, who gavo their best displays to date. Lord Boanchild found the pace too solid, and waa quickly in' trouble. The back-majker3 made little impression on the leaders owing lo the pace eet, and consequently were never dangerous.
Embracer, winner of the Trial Handicap at Ashburton yesterday, is a promising young paosr, being brother to Albert Cling, winner of the Cup Handicap. Embracer is owned and trained by the Oamaru mentor, J. Henderson, who has the eon of Young McKinney in this season's three-year-old classic races.
It could be plainly seen that several of the horses engaged at Aahburton yesterday had not been educated to the yards system, as in the majority of the events there were many who did. not strike a gait at the start.
