So a course was sr-fc from a few miles off Yorktown, Virginia, to the mouth of the Rappahannock river, where an iccbroaker cleared a space, and 20 submarines were bidden get in and get under. Steering by chart and compass, tho majority of the vessels did the voyage of nearly 30 miles, but s-omc lost their bearings and had to return to open -water. They could not do tliat in the Arctic. "
