Esson, C.M.G., has been appointed Acting Assistant Public Service Commissioner in terms of the Appropriation Act, 1918, and will take up.his new duties on.January..lst. ' Colonel Eaeori is best known-.for his service abroad with tne .New Zealand Expeditionary Force, especially when the forco was located at Cairo. • -ti 0 .was quartermaster-general to the -force there. Colonel Esson was, and still .is, an officer of the Treasury Department, and soniQ littlo time after he had moved to - tno new headquarters in London, when.the army went to'J*'ranee, he was sent back to New Zealand at the urgent request) of the Treasury .Department. He is a man cf the highest repute in the public service, and i>is appointment is regarded ns an extrcmoly good one. Abroad VJolonel Esson was a popular officer with those ia immediate touch with him, and as aa administrator ao won general commendation,
One of Colonel Esson's brothers is Mr W. L. Esson, of tho Christchurch Telegraph Oft ice staff, and anotner is Air M. H. Esson, ol' tho Timaru Tele-graph Office staff. His mother resides at Pieton.
