A leading tailor of Vienna wrote to the "Wiener Journal 7 ' in September that people have only to reflect on the price of material when they complain that suits cost 2000 crowns (£S36s Sd). "How can it b0 otherwise," he says, ".when » metre of poaoe material costs 500 crowns (£2O 16a od). In fact, an elegant fcuit will soon cost 3000 crowns (£126), and not only do th© fine suits made of pre-war material cost as much, even war-material suits are. already 1800 crowns (£75) each-Ready-made war-material suits cost 1300 crowns (£54 ss). Tho conditions in this respect, he continues, have become tso hopeless that next year w© shall have mj mora material to make suits from.
