SOLDIERS' CLUBS.

TO THE EDITOR OF "XBX PRESS." Sir, —There can, of course, be no tfro opinions as to the obligation of the public to see that adequate funds are provided for tho benefit of returned' soldiers and aU-o for appropriate memorials to the memory of the fallen, but surely it is a matter for deliberation as to how such funds can bo best applied. There is as great an obligation on the community to secure that money available for these purposes shall be wisely -used as there is to contribute it. Without any breathing space or opportunity to fully consider the best proposal for which to claim public support an appeal is being made in support of a building scheme. Without wishing to damp tho onthusiasm of those responsible for this scheme, it might be suggested that any scheme would have a better chance of succcss t after being fully considered and sanctioned by general public opinion, and by those who have been most actively enfaged in war work and given the 6oliers moral and material support during the course of the war, and who for the most part include parents, wives, ancf other relatives of the soldiers. It is known that theire are those who are not prepared to give money to be applied Solely to a building scheme, but would freely give for other purposes. The .greatest need of our men in the first instance is to get back to civil life with the best opportunity which can be afforded to them of doing some good for themselves, and there is much scope for use of money wisely applied in this direction. Why not have a comprehensive scheme fully considered to place before the public, both to make provision for further assistance to returned men, and provide suitable memorials, and let all warworking associations, while organised, co-operate with ail others willing to assist to make a great success of one appeal to cover the whole scheme?— Yours, etc., A SOLDIER'S FATHER. *
