SUNDAY " STUNTS."
"WHAT WON THE MELBOURNE CUP? Chaplain J. A. Gault, writing to the Chief Commissioner of ihe Australian Comforts Fund, says:— t "On Sundays we generally do what I call 'Sunday stunts, part of which is writing Bible names and places in the air with a cane, and giving a small prize to the one who first guesses it. One of the 'Diggers,' who had not been very successful, called but, 'I say. padre, give some of us blokes thai don't know our Bible too well a bit of a show.' " " 'Right you are/ I said. 'I've got some Capstan cigarettes from the V ictoria Racinc Club, and any man who caii write down m two minutes the names of 12 winners of the Melbourne Cup, will get two packets as a prize.' There was a great laugh and for two minutes a great silence. " 'Time!" and it was found that five men had a list of 12 winners that ihe audience checked carefully off. "It struck me as rather an unusual combination—a Methodist padre, Sunday afternoon, and cigarettes from the Victoria Racing Club, as a prize for winners of the Melbourne Cup."
