TO THE EDITOR OF "THE rR£SS." isir,—ln the general news of your paper of November 13th, speaking of the Poverty Bay Massacre. Te Kooti is referred to as a Chief. Ho was a man of no standing in the district, and was a notorious thief and a drunkard. I lived in the Bay some time before the massacre, and went through ' all the fighting till he was defeated atNgatipa. I have seen the man often —Yours, etc.. H.S.
