FUNERALS.
THE LATE SIR J. J. A>~D GUNNER J. C. DWYER, Yesterday morning the remains of tho late Mr John Joseph I>*T er ner James. Cecil Dwyer, wore Tli« rest in the Linwood funeral, a double one, left d of their parents, Superintendent ana Mrs Dwyer, Hereford street, was a very largo following, to the esteem in which the d were neld. The chief mourners were. -Mr John Dwyer (father), Mr Phdhp Dwyer (brother), Mr Leo Madde , Miss Bartiett, of Hawora, was hove been married to the lato Mr J. < J. Dwyer next month. The pall-bearers were members of tho Police ituxo. . On arrival at tho Cemoterr Itequie Mass was celebrated by the V ery -£ ev * Dr. Kennedy, assisted by the Iter. Father Long, and the Rev- iathor Fogarty. 'Iliis course had to be ioilowed, owing to the churches being closed on account of tho influenza epidemic. The Mass was served by tne Rev. Bros. Phelan and Emilian who were associated with the early education of the two young men. The service at the graveside, a most impressive one, was performed by Dr. Kennedy, assisted by Fathers Long and Fogarty, and after the commitment ot tho body of Gunner J. C. Dwyer, a firing party, tinder Sergeant-Major Stevenson, fired three rounds. Among those present were: —Mr S. E McCarthy, S.M., Sub-Inspector Muli laney. Senior-Sergeant D. Cumming, a large number of members of each branch of the Police Force, Mr S. 6. Raymond, K.C., Mr J. A. Cassidy, Mr F. W. Johnston, Mr W. Hob an, Mr A.. J. Mailey, Mr J. S. Barrett, Mr T. D. Kendall. (Public Trustee), Mr "W. G. Baiird (Assistant Public Trustee), Rev. Bro. Palladius, Lieutenant Sampson, and very many personal friends of the young men and their parents. Among others, wreaths were sfent by the Poliro Force, Mr Edgar Stead, Mrs R. J. Gilließ, Mrs E. L. Barnes. Mr Thornton, Mr Townsend, Mr T. Cotter, Mr A. Rose, Mr E. L. Barnes, Mrs Macleodsmith, Mrs R. Neil, Mr F. J.. Murray, Mrs N. Duncan, Mr Erasmussen, Mr H. Brinkman, and Mrs Close. Hundreds of letters and telegrams of sympathy' have been received by Mr and Mrs Dwyer from all parts of New Zealand, and as far away as Sydney. Tho President and Council of the New Zealand Catholic Federation telegraphed their condolence, and the following message was forwarded by Mr James Jordan, Clerk of the Court at Now Plymouth, where the lato Mr J.. J. Dwyer was assistant clerk:—"The staff tender you their sincere symoathy in the death of their dear friend 3ack. He was a good man."
MR ROBERT ROUSE. The funeral of tho late Sir Robert Rouse, town clerk, Kumara, took-place yesterday, at tho Linwood Cemetery, whore the Rev. Father Fogarty, assisted by the Rev. Father Creed, of Leeston, late of Kumnra, officiated at the graveside. Mr S. Powell (brother-in-law) and Mrs McCarthy and family were the chief mourners. Dr. Morkane and Mr G. Rich, represented absent Kumara friends, while amongst those present were Messrs E. Perkins (Greymouth), G. Mallinson, and J. Ryall (Grey County Council, A. Briggs (Westlarid Racing Club), J. Thomson, and H. Flarthy (Kumara), J. Dale (Kanieri), C. Stratfordj and others. . MR O. MARCH. Tho funeral of the late Mr Charles March took place yesterday, and was largely attenaed. The interment was at the Linwood Cemetery, the service at tho graveside being conducted by , the Rev. H. H. Mathias. TJjb pall-bearers were Messrs Ilr C. A. Drakt?, Gi Dermis, G. L. Cull, F. Dobbie, and F. Helsdon. The chief nlourners were Mrs Selbie (motherland Sir and Mrs E. T. March (cousins). Amongst those present were the Mayor of New Brighton (Mr F. Kibblewhite) Messrs E. J. Pegg, W. G. Sutton, W. C. Helsdon, E. Rowley, W. J. Wilding, "YV. Bannehr, M. Edwards; D. Moore, H. G. Lane, G. Sutherland, F. Drake, G. Payne, C. H. Evans, H. C. Osment, G. Anderson, G. Lawrence, C. McCree, and F. Muirson. i Amongst those who pent wreaths wore tlio directors of the various theatrical and picture enterprises in Cbristchurch, Mr and Mrs Bannehr, Miss Denby, Mr Dobbie, Mir and Mts G. L. Cull, Mr and Mrs E. T. Robinson, Mr E. Clark, Mr and Mrs Kibblowhite, Mr J. Hawkes, tho New Brighton Rifle and Bowling Clubs, Sir and Mrs W. A. Drake, Mr and Mrs W. C. Barnett, Mr and Mrs E. T. March, 'Mr and Mrs Bergli. and Mr and Mrs Osment.
