THE FUNERAL. (srscuii so "thi hubs.") AUCKLAND. November 6. The funeral of the late Rev. C. H. Garland, who died suddenly on Monday morning, took place to-day. The service at the deceased's residence, Dunholm, Remuera, was conducted by the Rev. J. jWrigley, assisted by the Iters. H. E. Bellliouse and J. J. Lewis. A public ' service was held in Pitt street Methodist Church at noon. There was a large attendance, including many ministers belonging to other denominations. The Rev. H. E. Bellhouse presided. The Rev. Frederick Warner, president of the Auckland Ministers' Association, rend a portion of Scripture. In the course of an eloquent address the Rev. C. H. Laws paid a very high tribute to the life and ministry of the deceased. Mr Laws said that Mr Garland was possessed of high Christian principles, and he had &w*ys identified himself with any movement which had for its object the betterment of mankind. As principal of the Church's theological training college at Auckland, he had exercised a wise and uplifting influence on the young men under him. He was a gifted preacher, and tho Methodist Church could ill afford to lose such an able minister. The Rev. G, Bond also took part in the service. interment took place at the "Waikaraka Cemetery. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. H. E. Bellhouse, assisted by the Revs. C. # H. Laws and T. G. Carr. The chief mourners were tho deceased's son and brother—Messrs J. Garland and T. H. Garland respectively. Therewas held in the Durham street Methodist Church commencing nt noon yesterdav, a memorial service in connexion with the death of the Rev. C. H. Garland, principal of the Methodist Theological Institute, Auckland. The service. _ which was held at a time corresponding with the funeml of the deceased i n Auckland, was remitted bv the Rev. A. C.
