* THREATS AT PUBLIC SHEETING. * (PRESS ASSOCIATION* TISLEGRAJI.) WELLINGTON, November 5. A meeting called by tho Mayor to consider tlio cost of living, passed a resolution directing tho attention of the Government to tho gravo discontent among working peoplo as a result of tho outrageous prices of food, clothing, and rent, and calling on the Government- to pass legislation to cope with the situation tho first urgent business of tho session.
The Government w;ts strongly condemned by speakers, one of whom said that if a remedy was not forthcoming the Labour organisations would take the law into their own hands. Another said that if they wanted to deal effectively with tho cost of living they should call on the Government to get out. Tho Mayor deprecated such statements, but both were applauded l .
