1 ASHBURTON. The fortnightly meeting of the Aebburtoi. Borough Council was hcltf last night. The Mayor (Mr £. Galbraith) reported that the overdraft was £10,428 0s Bd, and that the rcceipta since lost meeting amounted to Jildd 10s Id. A letter was received from the anfl Supply Department, Wellington, stating that the Munitions Department, Melbourne, hud been communicated with, asking that tbe importation of tlio supply of pipes to the order of Messrs A. and T. Burt, Dumdin, and Which are required for the Ketherby high pressure water supply be allowed to take p-laoe with as iittlo delay ee possible. 1 A-letter was wad from tho Hon. "\V. D. R. Mac Donald, Minister of Agriculture, stating that ~ihe Council's notification of an increase in the charges for slaughtering stock at the municipal abattoirs was receiving consideration. Dr. Chesso'n, District Health Officer, wrote recommending the Council to paee a resolution in. respoct to a regulation pattern dust and house refuse receptacle for use by residents within the borough. It. was pointed out that tho Council ■ bad made enquiries with reference to the matter a considerable time back and the replies received were that regulation pattern bini were not used in other towns. NEW BRIGHTON. The New Brighton Borough Council met last night. Preaont—Tho Mayor (Mr F. Kibblewhite), and Crs. F. Christian, R. Browniug, P. Sincock, C. Israelson, J. Buxton, A. W. Owles, C. H. Winny, and E. A. Leaver. A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of tho late Mr Hulmo was carried in eilenci. The . City Council Electricity Department notified that the Council's contribution. to the rental in connexion with the site obtained for the purpose of an electric sub-station would be £3 yearly. The Surf Club nominated the following fqr appointment as beach inspectors :-—Meaen» C. T. Mosley, H. McClelland, R. Campbell, V. C. Fantham, W. H. Smith, E. H. S. Batfihelor, F. Cox, A. E. SummerfieH, E. TT. Clwkeon, H. S. Batchelor, G. Watson, and C. H. Millar. The appointments were oonitnsed. Tho Hon. G. W. Russell stated that Sir J. G. Ward would visit the borough at thp firet opportunity to discuss matters in connexion with a now post office for New Brighton. Tho Waimairi and West Brifi&ton Burgesses' Association requested that steps be taken for a revaluation of the borough. The Tramwav Board advised ihart it was willing to contribute the sum of £33 10> towards the cost of the erection of mannfcs. barricades. The Finance and By-laws Committee recommended that the Council apply for the extra 10 per cent, on the Esplanade and Fleming street loan.—AUopted. The treasurer reported receipts £938 9a 2d, expenditure £813 10s Bd, balance general secount credit £77 8s 2d, balance temporal s loans account debit £3035, balance south lean account crcdit £154 13s 6d. It was decided to accept Mr Jbhaneen'f tender of 35s per chain for the erection of manuka fencing on tho South Esplanade. On the motion of the Mayor, it was resolved to hold a thanksgiving service after the church services on Sunday evening next. . .Tho Mayor stated that the local "Our Day" effort was now well up to the £400 mark, practically £160 over tho borough's quota.
