48TH REINFORCEMENTS.

♦ DEPARTURE FOR CAMP. In spite of the fact that Second Division men required to enter camp in November were recently given the opportunity of applying }or an extension of leave till January, 28 men from the Christchurch area district, and 5 from the North Canterbury, most of them Second Division reservists, preferred to enter camp on the original date, tnd left Christchurch last night. No fewer than 160 men in the Christchurch district, and 33 in the North . Canterbury, availed; themselves of the ' opportunity of postponing their admissiotL into the New Zealand Expeditionary Force until January. Last night's drafts prior to leaving for Wellington were farewellod at the King Edward Barracks by the Mayor (Mr H. Holland), who expressed the opinion that. it would he the last draft to leave Christchurch for camp. Following are tho names of the Christclmrcli men who left last evening:— E. W. Anderson, A. R.. "Wilkinson, E. H. Yates. j Following are the names of tho North Canterbury men:—Arnold Leggett Foster, John Scott McGregor, Harry Phillips, John Smith, T. P. Finlay. • The Ashburfon draft of the 48th Reinforcements waa entertained in tfte Drill Hall yesterday by Mr and Mrs W. G. Gallagher, of Mayfield. Speeches were made by tho Mayor (Mr R. Galbraith); Messrs W. G; Armitage (Terauka), H, M. Jones, and the Rev. Mr Johnston (Temuka). Mr Ferriman announced that Mr and Mrs J. Brown, of Mayfield, whose only son was leaving for camp, had handed him a donation of £50 towards the Navy League Fund. The names of the men who entrained were: — Captain N. C. Jones, C Company, Ashburton; W. Healey, G. R. Brown, W. C. Bushell, and Joseph. .
