NAVY LEAGUE CONCERTS

THEATRE ROYAL. The last of a series of concerto in .aid of rnriou® patriotio funds was held in the Theatre Royal last night,' when there was a bumper house, every seat except a few in tue gallery being oocupied. .The programme was n, very well arraoged one, eavefal of, Cxiriartr church's best known performers giving enjoyable items. Everybody's orchestra played the overture and also gave three excellent selections, "Egyptian Ballet" (Luigim), Indian Love Lyrics" (Woodfoid Finden), and Fneuman'a "Slavonio Rhapsody, * the I *? m bv request. Miss B«B6ie Olds sang O Divine Redeemer" (Gounod), and was enthusiastically encored. Songs were also given by Miss Madeline Knight, of the Scarlet Troubadours —who was recalled three times and deservedly so—Mr F. C. Penfold, and Miss Clare Solly, of the Fisk Jubilee Singera, all receiving insistent recalls. Captain J. H. Marciel recited Tennyson's "The Revenge." A very delightful violin solo was piayed by Mr Yerc Buchanan, "Moments Musicale" (Bohm), and Mr G. Martinengo . played "The Broken Melody" and a gavotte by Squire on his 'cello. In the unavoidable absence of Mr A. Boyle, president of the Navy League (Christchurch branch), the Mayor briefly epokc at the commencement of the concert, and extolled the glorious work of the Navy. QUEEN'S THEATRE. There was a large audience at the Queen's Theatre, Hereford street, last night, when an enjoyable concert was given in aid of the Navy League War Fund. Three delightful selections ■were played by the Queen's Theatre orchestra, including selections from "Caimen and a "Slavonic Fantasia" (Dvorak-Kreieler). Miss 0. Thorpe sang "Ave Maria" (Mascheroni) and "The Rosary"; Mr J H Cocks sang "Lee Rameaux" and "Lead, Kindly Light ; and Mr Arthur Macdonald "The Guard Ship," A recitation was given by Mr H. McD. Vincent, Mm H. Ellwood played a Chopin waltz, and 'cello and piccolo solos were given by Mr H. Beck and Mr.A. Hutton respectively.
