OBITUARY.
6 MR GEORGE W. CLARKSON. General regret will be expressed from ono end of Noiv Zealand to the other nt the untimely death, which- occurred after a short illness on Saturday evening, of Mr G'eorgo W. Clarkson, of the firm of Messrs W. B. Clarkson and Sons, and the youngo 3 t son of the late Mr W. B. Clarkson. Leaving the Christehurch Boys' High School (where he received hia education) earlier than tho average boy, ho immediatoly entered his father's business, and it seems only the other day that, when a small boy in a big Texan hat, riding a small grey pony, and. followed by a pack of aogs, ho was a familiar figure in every part of Canterbury. Directly associated with tho minor details of his father's business, so this young n*an grew up. A subsequent uip to England, and a close association with the meat markets at Homo, for a poriod of twelve months, just at that time when he was merging from boyhood to manhood, proved a valuable asset to his future commercial career. Shortly after his father's doath ho retired from . tho firm, and took up land in the North Island, where he resided for somo three years, but subsequently sold out and rejoined his brothers, Messrs J. C. Clarkson and W. B. Clarkson, in tho old firm. Being a clear-headed, activo-brained, forceful character, his all-round experience stood him in good stead, and it was not long before those connected ' with the stock and frozen meat business throughout New Zoaland recognised his capabilities. Apart from this he was of a gonial disposition, and, essentially, a true sportsman, was everywhere welcome. 'It is seldom one meete with a man so favourably gifted with a pleasant personality, and at the samo timo with such a keen knowledge of every class of business, as the late Goorgo Clarkson, and his untimely death, at the early ago of thirty-five, has robbed New Zealand of a young man with brilliant prospects, and one who will ho mourned by a very large circle of friends. He leaves a widow and five young children to mourn his loss , Tho funeral will leave his l&te residence, Idris road, Fondalton, at 9.30 this morning, for tho Riccarton Cemetery.
