LINWOOD CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH.

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS. Very successful anniversay celebrations in connexion, with the Linwood Congregational Church have been held during the week. There were large congregations on Sunday, when special services were conducted in the morning by the Rev. Geo. E. Moore, and in the evening by the Rev. H. Allen Job. Mrs H. Dawber presided at the. organ, and a large choir, under Mr J. Richards, sang appropriate anthems. Solos were contributed by Mrs Moore, Miss Dyer, Messrs F, C. Penfold, J. Richards, and J. Wilson. On Wednesday evening the annual tea, took place in the Social Hall, following which a well-attended public meeting was held in tho church. The choir again supplied special music, and Mts Gray contributed a, solo. The annual report showed that the work of the church had been well maintained. There was an increase of seven in "the church membership, every department of the church's activity was in good working order, and the prospects for the future were bright. The treasurer's crtotement showed that during the year about £150 had been raised for various purposes, and although there was a email debit on the general account other funds showed a, substantial credit. The Rev. W. Tanner, of the Tennyson street Church, in a short address, congratulated the Linwood Church on its success during the year. The Kev. H. Allen Job then gave a heartywelcome home to Captain P. McCallum. M.C. As a. church, he said, they had suffered heavily in those who had made the great sacrifice, but in welcoming those who returned from time to timo they rejoiced to know that they returned morally better men than they went away, which spoke volumes for their early training. Captain McCallum was one of whom they were justly proud, owing; to the honours which lie had won both in tho Edinburgh University and on the battlefields in. Frsnoe. Mr F. W. Dawber, late Sunday School superintendent, also spoke. Captain McCAllum, who was severely gassed while serving in France with the Army Medical Corps, has been, absent from New Zealand for nine years. He received a. warm ovation on rising to speak, and suitably responded to the addresses of welcome, expressing pleasure at being back again among eo many old friends.
