After a gocd nicht's rain the weather tor , e Ae Xortlierr. Agricultural ard Pastoral Aa- t, eociation's Show turned out line, and there ; was a good attendance. There was an in- . n rretiso 01 V2o ir. the entries, the young poo- j i pie's section chiefly supplying the excess over I S year. There Was a decided drop in the j <y entries of horse 3, there iittle competi- t I. tion in draughts, and a rttlo prohibiting w horses from entering in more than one class t '* in the liirht horso s<>ctions, with ono or two ; 2 exceptions, not only fchut cut many entries, i but caused confusion and dissatisfaction on ' Ithe show gTound. l-'or installed, ail the ; P horses entered in the lady's hack class ■ 0 declared ineligible to c-mpetc, except for ■- the special priz*. although the entries had been accepted and paid for. In eeveral other cases horses not eligible under t.ho rule for the class prizes competed for the specials 0 os6ic<L Tho Association would do well to - reconsider this rule. The show largely partook of a patriotic character, but the efforts in this direction were in the hands of local j Red Cross and Lady Liverpool branches, the j Lob urn and Ashley Patriotic Committees, n Tuahivri Soldiers' Committee assisting, and n their variouo stalls, side shows, art unions, i etc., were wo'.l patronised. A stall for *' 10 c Gale of soldiers' b:isketware was under the charge of Mrs A. Templar, of Christchurch, i assisted by other ladies, who accompanied the 1 eoldiers from "he city. In tho draught horse eeciion there was very c little competition in many of the classes. Mr e B. Ferguson's Tourist was the champion stal- < lion, and also won the Mcintosh Memorial Cup. and Sir J. Wyllio'cs Baron Thrave reserve. Mr John Wyllie, with his brood mare, ] ■won the female championship, and Mr J. D. t "Wyllio's rising tlirco-ycar-o!d filly was re- 1 serve. The champion prizo for the best two-year-old went io Mr R. W. Harina.'s filly. Mr J. 0. Coop showed tho best dry inure, and Mr t J. D. Wyllio eccrod in moat of tho other j classes, and gained tho points prize. In tho ( »add!o horse scction Mies McCarthy's Gaiety, : which won the championship, Messrs J. , Chapman's Ftisilade, H. M. Burgin'e Waddy, , aud Miss E. A. Birdling's General were the pick of those shown. Fuailado and General, and Messrs H. M. Burfrin's Handsome Jack, ; and T. C. "Wit-hell's Sharksnur wrrc success- i * ftd in the hunters' classes, Mi?s Birdling waa j ■ the best lady rider. Mr L. .W. Storry's Jack l was the cha.mpion harness horse, and Mr W. i Griffiths's Smith's Sox tho reserve. .There | i wore Koine fair classes of coos and ponies, Mr j C. E„ Skevineton showing the pony that was declared tho best on the ground, ; Some good Shorthorn cattle were ringed, ' Mr R. Peach's herd being- strongly repre- < eeKted in the cow and heifer classes, and winning the female championship and reserve. Tiio champion bull was shomi by Mr J. H. Burn 3, and the reserve by Mr Pencil. Mr < Sam. Smith won in a good class of yearling l bulls, and was alio very successful in the heifer classes. Messrs J. Fleming in Jersevs, H. "Winter in Ayrehires, and AY. J. White in milch cows scored tie chief awards in these sections. There was a small but good show of sheep, but tlicro was very little competition. Mr • Jaa. Stevenson took all the awards and championships in fine and strong combing merinos, and Southdowns, and was also successful in Border and halfbreds. Mr G. Y>\ , Barker liad no competition in English Lcicestere. Mresrs P, Merrin, jun., and J. 0. Coop were among the prize-winnera in Border LoiceatcT3. Messrs 11. Ensor and C. 11. Ensor had the Gorriedale classes to themselves, t.ho former winning the championship and reserve in rams and reservo in an <l latter took tho ewe chajnpionship.
