THE RED CROSS FUND.
« RESULTS OP "OUR DAY" APPEAL. PROPOSED DOMAINS FETE. A meeting' of the Centre Executive and the "Women'e Executive of tli© Red Cross Funds, and of representatives of branches, was held ; at the depot yesterday morning, Mr J. A. Flesher presiding. His Excellency the Governor-General "(pre- ' eident of the New Zealand •Branch of tho British Red Croßs Society and Order of St. John) wrote: —"On the completion of another effort for the funds required in response to 'Our Day Appeal,' I feel I must send to all who have fought so splendidly for tho cause of the sick arrl wounded my heartiest congratulations for the results achieved. Your workers, through their untiring efforts, have succeeded in not only placing the finances of our Now Zealand Branch in the strongest possible position, so far as its needs are concerned', but have secured for our parent organisation a magnificent contribution at a time when there is so much need of assistance. I felt I could not let the occasion pass without expressing to you my deep appreciation to all who have contributed to this success." Tho chairman announced that the total proceeds from "Our Day" (street collection and sales) amounted to £3600, including £530 the proceeds of the school children's effort. • He thought the response was highly satisfactory. Introducing the matter of the Domain Fete, the chairman said that the proposal to hold the fete originated with tho Summit Road Association, which had obtained the Domains Board's permission to hold the_ gathering. There was an understanding that in the event of any fete being held in the gardens the Red Cross should receive consideration, and, consequently, it had been decided that the fete should be a joint function, and arrangements had been made for the greater part of the results being for the Red Cross. There would be, probably, a rose show. It was hoped that the branches who assisted on "Our Day" would assist at tl» - fete. The archery ground was to bo converted into a sort of fair, with tea and other tents: The Women's National Reserve, the Victoria League, and the Overseas-Club had been invited to join hands with the Red Cross in making the affair a success. It was hoped that tie Red Cross would benefit to the extent of at least £2000. "I em not here," Mr Fleeher continued, "to advocate the claims oS the Summit* Road Association, but I think you will all agree that it is a most praiseworthy object, and oven if tho present generation does not get all the benefits from that Association, the rising generation will in the future. It is going to be a great asset for Christchurch, and anything that can be done ■to help will be iu the interests of the city. Many of those connected with the Association are liberal supporters of IJed Cross work, and the Association's work was one of those things in which the Red Cro6S could win, especially as the greater portion of the proceeds wfll go to Red Cross work." A general discussion ensued respecting arrangements for stalls. It was decided that definite arrangements should be fixed at a meeting of women to be held after carnival week.
