THE REPORTED RECALL OF THE U-BOATS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, October 29. v Tho "Daily Chronicle," despite com trary reports, states:—Tho Gormans have recalled tho submarines, and thorp has been a cessation of submarino warfaro for four days. NEW YORK, October 29. A United Press Washington messaga states: —Danish advices have.boon received stating that U-boats, flying a white flag, have been seen heading towards Kiel. A GREAT MINEFIELD. NEW YORK, October 29. Mr Daniels, Secretary of tho United States Navy, has announced that more than 250,000 mines have Been laid in a groat anti-submarine minefield across tho North Sea, from the Norwegian const to within a few miles of Scotland. The British and American Navies cooperated. Tho mino barrage proved s most effective measure against the Üboats. A mine-loading plant had beei established with a capacity of more than 1000 daily. Tho minefield is the greatest in tho world's histoir. Mr Daniels snid: —"The success of- tfifl special type of mine used has surpassed all expectations."
