I A cargo of Victorian-growm wheat, described as above fair average quality, has xrrived at Dunedin, And was to-day being unVaaried, It jl id one of the shipment* purchased by tie New Zealand Government-, and it oomea -to a a market thtet wants it. But the Duwdis .millers will not buy this wheat at the price asked, G» 5Jd per bushel, because that is appreciably higher than the price naked of the Christehurcli millers, who got their Australia n wheat at 6a 4Jd deliverwi to the Biiws— equal to 6e 3d ex wharf at LytteUon. The Minister of Agriculture points out that t-lio Dunedin millers are allowed to chaise - jil per ton more lor their floor t*tt_ the Christchuvch millcre charg®, this permission being granted to compensate for the cost of railing New Zealand-grown wheat from Canterbury. The Dunodin millers' reply to this is that if they charged £16 10s per ton for their flour, they could not compete with the Oamaru and Timaru flour Bold at £15 10a. As a matter of fact. Oamaru and Timaru hftve previously out into the Duiwdui trade at au advantage, and it is not likely that ( the Dunedin millers will consent to a repetition, of that experience, eo they bare been Belling at £15 ss. The present position is the more aggravating in view of the fact that the Government, in fixing the prioe of Australian wheat, also, established the price of New Zealand wheat At from 5s lOd to 6s 2d, with the promisethafc if thoro vris a shortage, Australian wheat would be supplied nt equivalent prices. If the' Dunedin millers purchased this wheat ! at the price now asked, they would Kind it" at a loss of 5s per ton of flour, mikes the prioe of. flour and consequently the price ef the loaf went "up correspondingly. _ i Meanwhile' the wheat is going into stars, and if it stays there somebody wEQ. h*v» to pay extra charfjos. -A repreeentativw of tiM Wheat Controlling' Committee haa earn to Wellington to further interview the Minister on the eiibject. , COOL STORES FOR FRUIT.
