Mr Hoover points out chat to obtain the necessary tonnage for the transportation of food and troops it will be necessary to withdraw Allied ships from Australian and South 3 American trade, transferring them to service between Europe and North , America. The Shipping Board conk structed in August 261,039 tons of shipping, as compared with the total Allied f losses for that period amounting to v 259,400 tons. The United States ways were now double the total shipways of J the lest of the world. It is officially announced that 356 ships, aggregating more than 2,000,000 j tons dead-weight, were completed in' yards under the supervision of the Emergency Fleet Corporation, up to s September 14th. In addition during the same period 264 ships were launch- " exl aggregating 1,223,000 tons deadweight.
