OBITUARY.
A "Waihi telegram announces the death of Mr H. I>. Morpeth, Town Clerk of Waihi, after a fortnight's illness. Deceased, who was a member of a well-known Auckland family, had been town clerk of Waihi since its conversion into a borough, some sixteen' years ago. He was a popular and) capable official. Mr Morpeth, who was sixty-three years old, took a ke>en interest in:all patriotic matters. He was the father of six sons, all of whom were soldiers, two having made the supreme sacrifice. ill - Charles Tennant, engineer, who died early this month from tho malady which so disastrously ravaged a Kew Zealand troopship at sea, was born at Timaru in 1894. He served his apprenticeship with the Union Steam Ship Company at the Port Chalmers works, and went to sea in June, 1915, as eighth engineer of a special service steamer. Mr Thomas Hyndman, who died at Dunedin on Saturday, was very well, known as a traveller for Messrs It. Wilson and Co. When ho came out from the North of Ireland he settled at Oamaru, and there had his first experience of the colonial Customs in the grocery business. It is over 40 years since he entered the eervice of Messrs R. Wilson and Co. For a large part of his time he travelled the goldfields circuit.
