MR MASSEY IN CANADA.
♦ . A notAble occasion. According to a private cable message received in Wellington, Mr Massey, Prime Minister, at present in Canada en route home from the Imperial War Conference, was the central figure of a memorable scene at Montreal. He was invited by a deputation to address a meeting held in the largest Congregational Church in that city on Sunday, lfifbh inst., and addressed a huge gathering oa the "Lessons of the War." Reporting the address, the Montreal "Gazette" says: "So strong was the message of confident optimism by the Prime Minister of New Zealand that all traditions of Sunday church etiquette were cast to the winds, and the speech was repeatedly greeted with unrepressed applause, while, when he closed with a vehement message of confidence that the war was now so promising that there was no possibility of any conclusion but an absolute victory and a clearing of the international board so thoroughly that no German kultur could ever again curse the peace of the world, the congregation broke into prolonged applause, which would probablv have developed into cheers. This was prevented by the organist playing the National Anthem, which was sung with emphatic fervour."
