N.Z. SWIMMING ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of tho Council of the New .Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was held last night. Present—Messrs J. Buchanan (chairman), E. O'Neill, H. MoD. Vincent, 3?. O. Fantham, W. H. Besson, C. ' Atkinson, and P. N. Bundle (secretary). Mr W. B. Jorrom wrote, stating that he was reluctantly compelled to tender his resignation from the secretaryship of tho Auckland Centre, on account of feb<3 frequent defaults of members as regards attending meetings. It was decided to write to the chairman of the Centre asking him if ho could manage to retain the services of Mr Jerrom. The Wanganui Centre wrote, stating that it had appointed Mr W. H. Benson as its delegate. The chairman welcomed Mr Benson to the Council.
Mr A. M. Farnall, hon. secretary of the Wellington Centre, 'wrote, stating th&t in J conversation with one or two members of the « Schoolmasters' Association there ho found ' that they favoured the suggestion that the i Education Department should provide the cost of school certificate, and were of the opinion that the Department should also defray the cost of school championship 1 medals, also that a portion of tho capitation grant should be sot aside for swimming events for school children Tho Centre recommended that the Council instruct each Centre to approach the Schoolmasters' Association in their district for a recommendation to the Department, end that the Council simultaneously apply to the Education DeThe seoretaiy stated that ho had received advice from toe Education Department thai as the Association was receiving a grant from J the Department of Internal Affairs rt could t not help in the matter oi certificates. He < had replied to Mr Farnall s letter to this ] effect, but approving of his Centre s euggesIt was decided, on the motion of Mr J O'Neill, to bring up the matter at the next conference, and that members of the Council and others connected with swimming wait on the Minister of Education at the earliest op- , portunity to placo before him tho whole j The secretary stated that 2308 certificates had been granted during the last eeaaon. Tho date for the annual meeting of tho Council was fixed at November 22nd. The usual honorarium was voted to the stated that Mr Bundle was eoing away from Chriatchurch, and it would to appoint a provisional aocrot# Mr B. O'Neill was'appointed secretary and Mr H. McD. Vincent treasurer. MrW E. D. Bishop was appointed president. and a vote of thanks was passed to Mr J. R. Buchanan for hia services as deputy-chairman.
