■ » ' LAST NIGHT'S CONCERT. The second performance given by th® Tren- • tham- Camp Band and the team of bayonet fighters in the Coloeeeum last night, was ' witnessed by a very huge' audience. The ■elections by the band,- under tho oonductorship of Regimental Sergeant-Major F. Fox, were warmly applauded, and mafcy enoorea had'to be responded to. The displays of bayonet fighting and of physical drill by the team, Captain Bock, were admirably given and aroused the greatest enthusiasm. The : vocal and other items given by members - of the party and the humorous war stories by Major Lam pen, D.5.0., were highly appreciated. For the success of the band's visit to Chriatchurch mueh credit is duo to the local secretaries, Mr F. a Raphael and Major A. E. Loach, both having energetically worked op great, interest in the band and the bayonet-fighting team. _ _ The Trentham Camp Band will take part in this afternoon's parade at King Edward . and will give a concert at Lyttelton this evening for an hour before the departure vof the ferry steamer for 'Wellington. DISPLAYS TO SCHOOLS. A yvty fine and interesting display of physical drill was given on the Christ s College ground yesterday morning by the '' Trenthain team of bayonet fighters, and was witnessed by the boys attending Christ's College,' the-' Boys' High School, and the West Chriatchurch District High School. The Trenthain Camp Band, under SergeantMajdr Fox, attended and played a number { of'selections. '• Colonel B. A, Chaffey, 0.0. district, in some brief remarks to the boys before the drill was given, advised them to watch the drill | carefully, as the opportunity to witness the display was a great privilege. The team, under Captain Bock, , then went -..through the instructional drill, which was followed by the boys with - very close attention. This took about half an hour, at the < end of which time Colonel ChafCey aaked the hoys whether they would rather go to lunch '. or see some further displays. A decided chorus of "ayes" in favour of seeing more was the response. The team then gave some of the games • indulged in by the . soldiers . b«hind the lines, games which combined menial as well as physical training. A. typical • : game was "O'Grady," .in which' only the orders preceded by tho words "O'Grady says" w«re to be obeyed, ordinary orders to be dia- • obeyed; in .the eivent of . "the ordinary orders • < "being obeyed those" doing so were compelled *to undergo some penalty. Even with a team ' «o well trained as the . Trentham team individuals were caught now and then, much to the amusement of the onlookers. _ • At the conoluaion of the. display very hearty cheers were given by the boys for the team and for tho band. *" The team yesterday afternoon entertained {he boys of the Fifth and Sixth Standards ' of the primary schools with an exhibition of drill at the King Edward Barracks. There was an attendance of 1151 boys, the numbers from the various schools being as follows:— Elmwood 80, Shirley 40, Opawa 26. Addington 45, Hornby 30, Normal 80. Lin wood 66, Woolston 55, St. Albans 80. Richmond r 2, Heathoote 18, Chriatchurch West 90, Fendal- • ton' 17.
