RACING AND TROTTING | NOTES. •Ut' "LooKen-Os.") ! Owing to telegraphic delays, the nominations for the New Zealand Cup, which were to bare closed at 8 o c.ock last evening, have been postponed until 10 a.m. to-day. Acceptances for tho Goraldin© Racing Club's Spring Meeting close at 8 o clock this evening. Several New Zealand howes are .encaged at tbo Roschill Meeting winch takes place to.-day. Alihoner, Finpiark, and Killovven figure m the Roaehill Guineas; Biplane, Kilhope, and Gloaming in the bpring fetaKe^, Kilffloon and Arch Marella in theßosehill Handicap; and Tararu Jack in the Hurdle Rac®. The following penalties hare been cut-rod for the Geraldinc Racing Olub;Meeting:—Hurdlo Race, Vasculdr Kimbolton 141b.. Squatters' Handicap : Thestius 21b, Moorabbe olb. Cup : Rogo Pine 71b, Roval Star 51b. Ohapi Hack Handicap: Moorabbo olb. Pltatic 21b. Belfield %eltor: Spyglass 101b Farewell Handicap: Rose 1 ink 81b. Royal Star 81b. 'It » stated that Mr T. H. Lowrv intends sending Aurifrius, tho dam of Desert. Gold, to Demosthenes this seaeon. i The stewajds of tho Tarauaki .Jockey Club have raised the stake for the Taran&ki Cun to 600 sovs.

Says a Sydney vrriifer: If tho good. tiiroe-yeasr-<jlds ■which figure in the list of first acceptors actually go to tho post in tho Rosehill Guineas on Saturday, the 21st inst., it will not only provido a good race, but should throw considerable light on the Derby problem. The Xev.- Zoalanders, Aliiioner, _ Finmark, and Killowen, hare been paid up for and the Victorian colt, Private King, j who has shown promise as a stayer, is I also in the list. The locally-owned ! -classic winners which still have tho ! noht to run aie Pod Fox and Sweet i Lady.

Ail Auckland sportsman is to kftro made a substantial offer for Maioha aftfer lib won the Umutaroroa 'Handicap at the Dftnnerirke Meeting, but no businesa resulted. Had negotiations been successful the son of Hallow ttias ttould probably havo been sent to Australia. • •

Apparently, savs a Sydney rtriter, Victoria is porely in need oi horses of thG weight-fofc-aee cinss. This is Apparent in tuo dearth of fentri63 f6r the rich stakes at tbo A.J.C. Spriru; Meeting. No Victorian ha« b«en nominated for the Spring Stakes on the first day, and on'y tb& Outlook and Private King figure, in. the other raws run under tho scale. Probably tho presence of , Dfesert Gold and Biplane seared off sotno who aspired to weigh for-age honotlrs.

Achillcdcs r-et out to make the pace in tin Second Hurdles, but ho jumped badly, and after struggling over the last fonco collapsed. The Fairfield Hack Hndicap was a falsely run Tace. Thcstius went out in front and nono of the others seemed to recognise that he was worth chasing, with tho result that the Martian —Lady Lillian gelding had a good lead turning for home, and could not bo caught. Killjoy never left the result of the Tinwald Handicap in doubt, beginning smartly, she led all the v.ay, and though Thaddeus and Glcndower made strenuous efforts to get on terms, she won easily. Warform ran a good race, and. it was more the pace that was set than the distance that boat him. The Winchmorc Trot was a fiasco. Look Out, who was on the limit, led all tho way and won easily, though he went to a break two furlongs from home. Lunedale "was raced without hopples, and could not keep his feet. Plastic, from the inside, got away best in the Maiden Race, with Red Cent next, and they -were in tho van all the way. Meddlesome, who was second favourite, got away badly, and never had a chance of getting near tho leaders. All Ready waa favourite in a good betting raco for tho Coldstream Welter. Turning for homo he appeared to be going well, but force of circumstances made him go round the outside, while _Sedd-01-Bahr got through cn tho inner, with a result that Thaddeus, who finished fast, was beaten a half length. Hylans led for a mile and was pulling hard, but once challenged he collapsed and finished fifth. Saxby was made a warm favourite for the Hack Welter, but ho was not seasoned enough, and was beaten into third place. Matty got .an advantage at the start of the Farewell Handicap, but Phil May headed her off before going a furlong, and the Martian—Nantes mare was sent back nearly last. With a furlong to go. Phil May looked like winning, but when Belair and Mattv challenged he collapsed and finished third.
