RACING AND TROTTING NOTES. (BY "LOOXER-ON.") Nominations for the New Zealand Cup close at 8 o'clock this evening. Acceptances for the Geraldine llacing Club's Spring Meeting close to-morrow. His Majesty King George had a winning representative at Newmarket at the July Meetings m a colt named Jutland, who won the Dulhngham Plate, one mile and a quarter; and th Ellesmere Stakes, one mile and threefurlongs. Jutland ran in the.nomination of Lord M. Beresford, but was bred at his Majesty's stud, and got, by Marcovil from Princess Dagmar. I covil is the bire of the Oainaru stailiou Markhope, .who was also bred by his Majesty ■ the King. Rose Pink, who won tho Ashburton County Handicap yesterday, has now commenced her fourth season on t»a track, and although she has done a ot of travelling and racing, she seems to thrive on it. As a two-year-old she started' in 13 races, and won one, ana was plated in anotner. At three years she started in 38 races, won six of them and was placed eight times. Last seasoil she raced in 28 ©vonts, won *o ur ahd was placed'in five otneis. She ha 3 opened this season well, as after racing unsuccessfully at Marton. she won last j week , at Dannevirke, and followed " this up by. scoring at Ashburton. Up to the present time she has started in 82 races. A story that;is causing a lot of: joy among the local racing fraternity is that-of the woes and trials of a (pair of trainers to whom, recently, an upcountry owner (not a hundred. miles from Uakataramea) sent a couple or horses, one a galloper and the other a trotter (says the "North Otago Times The latter was to be placed at Wailuate, and the other with an Oamaru stable. McDonnell, has had numerous enquiries from breeders for the American sire. Mr H. F. Nicoll's Pearlchild has ] foaled a filly to Logan Pointer, Brown Empress a filly to St. Switiiin, and | "Wildfiower twin foals (deau) to the same . sire. All threq mares will visit St. i Swithin this season. D. Warren intends putting the five-year-old trotter Aianui into work next' week with a view of racing her at | Oamaru next month. Ivy Dillon, the dam of Locanda Dillon, is booked to visit Brent Locanda this season. | Recent bookings to Mr W. S. Scott's ■ trotting stallion, Quincey, are Mr W. . Shellook's Havana, Mr J. S. Boag's Imperious mare, and Mr W. Perry s Rothschild mare. The Longbeach Trot at Ashburton yesterday did not arouse much interest. The scratching pen was freely used at. the eleventh hour, Indra, Maia. Under- j scrub, Golden Peter, Peter Dillon, and Guynemer all declining their engage- ! meats. Leewood, who began smartly, was closely attenaed by Fernmoor,' and this pair practically had the race to , themselves, Leewood winning under I punishment in the slow time of 3min 46 l-St'a sec, with tho favourite, Em- , peror, a poor third.
