Glasgow, Taylor, and K. Roberts, besides other Now Zealand representatives. A Trentham team played Canterbury on Monday of last week, and a very good game xt>- ' suited, although the northern team was considerably below its usual strength. The whole of the prooeeds of the match, after deducting expenses, will be handed to the Hod Cross Fund. In all probability, the Trentham Military Band, which is touring the -Dominion, will play selection* during' the afternoon. - The gam» will commence at 3 p.m. At 2 p.m. a curtain raiser will be played, in the form of a match between teams representing the Commercial Travellers and the Pioneer ■ Motor and Sports Club. The New Zealand Union is still dissatisfied with the conditions -under which Saturday's match between Auckland and Wellington was-played. A football competition amongst the various companies, was arranged this season by the officers of the' Railway Battalions, NZ E. Last month the team representing 1 Nos. 1 and" 2 Companies, Christchurch, beat a team representing Nos. 7 and 8 Companies, Wellington, by 33 points to 8. I*st Monday the Christchurch team played in Dunredin, a team representing Noe. 5 and 6 Companies, Dnnedin, and No. 7 Company, Invercargill. The Christchurch team quito outclassed tho Southern team, and won by 36 }»ints to nil. Tries were scored for Christchurch by Watson (3), Grant (2), Malmancho (2), and Watt, Coulson, and McPherson. ASSOCIATION GAMEL THE BROWN SHIELD. The success of Canterbury in the Brown Shield match against Wellington is etecially acceptablo to Otago, by reason of the fact that a stronger Otago team can be got together for the trip to Christchnrch than would have been possible if Wellington had to be visited (says Monday a Dunedin Star' ). Otaro is verv hopeful of bringing the shield to Dunedin this year, and to that end has had men in special training at the Y.iIX.A. rymnasium for some weeks. A match was held on Saturday, and, while the representative team beat the side_ pitted against them by only 6 goals to o, there waa sufficient evidence to encourage the belief that the Brown Shield team, after further opportunity for playing together. wIII make a strong, dashing combination. The match against Canterbury will be played at Christchurch on tho 21st inst. The Otago Association has recommended, that Mr Black, of Christchurch, b© the referee for the match.
