THE SOUTH EXPRESS.

AGITATION FOR ALTERATION IN TIME. (SPECIAIi TO "THB FRES3,") DTJNEDIN, September 10. At a meeting of the Otago brancli of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, the following resolution was carried: "That this meeting strongly supports tho action of the Duneain Chamber of Commerce and other local bodies in their efforts to secure an alteration in the time of the Christchurch-Dunedin express. Seeing that the ferry boat arrives early ami that the whole of tho trains arrive in Christchurch by 10.15 a.m., we consider that the south express ohould be started at 10.30 a.m. at the latest. This would reduce the long hours worked by the Dunedin train Btaff. whose working day now exceeds 11 hours, without so much as a meal being allowed. This offers a striking contrast to the allowance made by the Postal Department to its staff for the same journey."
