INCREASING FIRE LOSSES.
« . (SPECIAt TO "THB PRESS.") "WELLINGTON, September 3. In course of conversation with a prominent underwriter to-day, it -was ascertained that the firo hazard was increasing in New Zealand. Immediatelyafter the outbreak of war fires were infrequent, and the position remained) good for some time. Last year, howwer, the record was worse than that of the previous year, and up to the end of last month the fire losses exceeded those for the whole of 1917. It is difficult to account for this, but with underwriters «je moral hazard is generally credited! .with the increase in ures.
