Word was received in Christchurch yesterday that Lieut. M, H. Tisdall, second son of Mr W. H. Tisdall, Opawa, had been wounded whilst engaged in the present- operations on the Western front.- Lieut. Tisdall, since leaving New Zealand, has seen considerable service, and but for an illness a few months back necessitating an operation, hag-enjoyed excellent health. His elder brother, Lieut! L. F. Tisdall, . was seriously wounded in the Passchendaele offensive, and has since been invalided back to New Zealand. Mr Tisdall's third and remaining son has enlisted and been passed as fit, and enters the Flying School shortly.

liieut. William A. Stuart (killed) was educated at the Otago Boys' High School and Otago University. At each of these institutions he gained sufficient scholarships to educate himself without assistance from his parents. After receiving his M.Sc. degree he was appointed demonstrator at Victoria Collogo, Wellington, but previous to enlisting he was science master at the Otago Boys' High School. . He left with the 17th Reinforcements, and while in France was promoted to lieutenant. Ho was 27 years of age.

• Private Leo M. Prideaux, who was wounded on August 25th in France, is the second son of Mr and Mrs Prideaux, of Kaikoura. He left with the Samoan party, subsequently going to Gallipoli and Franco.

i Major James O'Sullivan,' of the De- ' fence Department, has received advice of the death, on August 24th, of his son, Second-Lieut. L. D. O'Sullivan, who was recently reported dangerously ill from wounds in the abdomen and forearm, received during the heavy fighting on August 16th. The deceased ' officer was- educated at the Marist i Brothers' School and St. Patrick's College, in both of which institutions he gained distinction in athletic exercises. The late Lieut. O'Sullivan was only 21 i -vears of age. He was on the staff of ! the Public Trust Office when he went • on active servce. He left for the front in October last with the 30th Reinforce- ' ments.

Private George Black, killed in.aotion, was a son of Mr G. Black, sen., Waimate. fie was employed in Mr C.

Taaffe's mercery business prior to enlisting in one of tho first reinforcements. After an illness which detained him at Albany he reached the front, where he served for a long term. Mrs Hogg, wife of Lieutenant-Colonel A. W. Hogg, Assistant Director of Medical Services in Christchurch, has been advised that her brother, Major Bernard Tennent, R.A.M.C., was killed in action on the Western front on August 23rd. Major Tennent, who was a son of the Rev. E. C. Tennent, was born in Australia. He came to New Zealand as a boy, and was educated at the Dunedin High School. He went to England to study medicine, and took his degree at the Edinburgh University. He held the Military Cross and one bar, and was recommended for the D.S.O. Mr and Mrs W. Rainey, Clandeboye, have received word of the death of their son, Private W. Rainey, in Brockenhurst Hospital, England. Private Rainey had previously been reported seriously ill. He went away with tho 25th Reinforcements. He was a farm labourer and well liked by all who knew him. RICCABTON CRICKET CLUB'S 11 *I j Ui!
