RAKAIA ROAD BOARD.

At _ the monthly meeting of the South Rakaia Road Boarfl th£re were present— Messrs A. J. Magson (chairman), H. J. Harrison, J, Lambie. A. Drummond, and R. 0. Hill.

It was resolved to take two acres of land froth the Holmeslee-Somerton Estate for a gravel pit, situated at the corner of Section 15593, opposite Mr W. Cronin's land.

Mr A. J. Magaon reported that he had not been ■ able to make arrangements with Mr P. Tu!!y for a pit on the Main River roiyd. The clerk reported that all the 1917-1918 rates had been paid.

It was resolved to effect repairs to the north end of Buddo's road.

, The chairman was authorised to have the road from Dorie Church to the Kyle road ploughed in readiness for grading. A Christchurch firm applied for a permit to erect a atone in the Rakaia Cemetery, but it was resolved, to reply that this could not be done till the 6ection waa purchased. The clerk of the Ashburton County Council wrote asking for particulars of any noted Frenchmen, buried in the Rakaia cemetery. The members of the Board had no knowledge of any.

The secretary of tlio Prisoners of War Fund, Ashburton, wrote thanking the Board for its donation of £20.

The aecretary of the Aahburton Branch of the Farmers' Union wrote asking the Board to supply poisoned grain gratis, or at cost price. It was decided to reply that under the Injurious Birds Act the Ashburton. County Council was the local authority for the district, and the Board therefore regretted it'could not accede to the request. The clerk of the Ashburton County Council wrote regretting that the Council could not supply poisoned grain, a« the stock was nearly out, ana none had been prepared this year.
