POBT OP LYTTELTOS. SAlLED—August 12th. Wakatu (12.10 a.m.), for Kaikoura. Monica, (10.35 aan.), for Akaroa. Storm (5 p.m.), for Pioton. Mararoa (6.50 p.m.), for Wellington. Breeze (10.10 p.m.), for Napier. SHIPPING NOTES. The Orepuki is due in port to-morrow from Timaru, where* ehe w discharging' a load, of timber from Greymcrutli. Tho vessel will load general merchandise at Lytteltcn for the West Coasi. Laden with coal from Greymouth, the collier Kamana will arrive at Lyttelton this morning. She will discharge here, and on ion, return to tho West Coast. The Manuka, from Sydney, via Wellington, is due here to-morrow, and is to depart on her return trip to Sydney on the arrival of the 5.20 p.m. train from Christchurch. The Monowai will be despatched from Auckland to-day for Wellington direct, thence to Lyttelton and Dunedin. She should arrive here on Saturday. The Corinna, from New Plymouth, shouH reach this port to-morrow. Sho will take in cargo here for discharge at Nelson and New Plymouth. The Kowhai, which is discharging a load of coal here from the West Coast, will probably complete by to-morrow, when ehe is expected to sail on a return trip to Gr<»vmouth. The Cygnet's trip to Kaikoura this week will have to be abandoned, the vessel being at preeent on tho elip for overhaul. The Westport Coal Company's collier Canopus ifl loading coal at Westport for discharge at Timaru. The Kini is .also loading there for Bluff. The Rosamond will probably be despatched from Dunedin to-day with cargo for Napier, calling en route at Oamaru and Timaru STELLA AND ANTIOPE. The Bluff "Press" states that it has been definitely decided that Captain R. J. Hamilton, who will leave Auckland in a few day <3 with the refitted steamer Stella for Dunt-iin, wil] subsequently take over the command oi the Antjope when, that famoos clipper arrives

back in the Dominion. Both ehe ' the Stella now run under the ownership oi the Otogo lion Boiling Mills Company, Ltd. Captain Hamilton's wife and son aro to accompany him on bia. voyage to 'Frisco in the Antiope. Regarding:' Captain Hamilton's prosent oommand, the' Stella, as is well known, is a eitster vessel to the Government steamer uineiuoa, and at is interesting' to recall that Captain McDonald was mate on .the. Stella when lie accepted' the position of harbourmaster at Bluff, and Captain Hamilton was mate on the Hinemoa .when he joined the Bluff harbourmaster's staff as second pilot. Captain Hamilton vacated the post of- pilot, at JJiuS some months ago to tako ovor the command oi the Stella.

. MORE LINERS LOST. MARMORA AND AUSTR ALIEN. News received by tho mail from Sydney eta tee that the P. and O. liner Marmora has been sunk. One of the original "M" does, tho Marmora became a . firm favourite from the first trip she made to Australia, and), until tho outbreak of the war, maintained a' 'regular time-table. When' hostilities began, the Marmora did her full share in carrying on the all-important work of tho Navy. The Marmora, which was an Up-to-date snip in every respect, was built in 1903 by Messrs Harland and'Wolff (Ltd.), Belfast. She was a twin-screw steamer, registering 10,509 tons gross, arid 5241 net. Her dimensions were:' Length 530 ft 4in, breadth 60ft Bin, and depth 25tt Sin. Perhaps no company trading to Australia has suffered more through war losses than the P. and O. Company. Of their famous Australian fleet the following have been lost:—Maloja, Medina, Mooltan, Moldavia, Mongolia, Arabia, Persia, .and India, while many of the company's vessels trading to' other ports have also been sent to the bottom. The Marmora,was not one 'of those steamens which called at Auckland. , Another loss recorded is'• that of the Australian, one of the Message riee Maritimea Company's most popular passenger steamers, which has also been torpedoed and sunk. The Australien was a throe-masted nelled steamer of 6377 tons gross and 3649 net. She was built at La Ciotata in 1889, and had the following' dimensions: Length 485 ft Sin, beam49ft 2m, and depth 34ft H-n, Her port of registry was Marseilles.
