Shortly afterwards Bond just prevented E. Cummings from eooring Dy kicking out of bounds, and the whistle sounded with Canterbury on the attack. My J. F. Peako was referee. NOTES ON THE PLAY. Otago. were somewhat unlucky to lose, but for this- they have largely to thank , themselves, several' opportunities in the first halt being thrown -away*- in the second spell they had largely their opponents' measure. Their forwards showed much better combination than the Canterbury men, and they proved a very fine pack. Glengarry and Fairmaid .n particular standing out prominently. Ma tieson the hall-back, played brilliantly, and jeffa and MoDonald, the five-eighths, proved a redoubtable pair, bat the wings were weak. Some very necessary changes are required in the Canterbury team belare it plays ;te next match. Tho forwards on Saturday were far from cohesive* and one or two could quite safely be dropped. Kmpoon, Murray, and Henry playtd, best. Tench (at half-back ' gave an indifferent display, finning a diffiI culty in keeping his feet, and O'lioughlin at I full-back was far from convincing. Mullina ' at first five-eighth and Boag at centre played brilliant games, and Hirst and McLeod were rcaponsibie for some excellent work. IS. B. McDonald, the captain of tho Otago team,' is the old Ohriotchurcli five .eighth, who played tor Canterbury in 1908. He has represented Wellington, Canterbury, Auckland, and Otago on the football field. JOCKEYS' MATCH. Tho annual football match between the North ana South island jockeys teams attracted a very large attendunoe of the public, who were con.tyed to Kicoart-on by special tram-cars, 'ibe game was last and wiloug. The iNorih i Isiabd won by 3 points (a try scored by Stan. Keid) to nil. CANTERBURY RUGBY LEAGUE.
