An appeal will be shortly made by the ladies of Kaikoura for funds to purchase trench comforts for the boys at the front. If residents will multiply by three the conditions prevailing here on Sunday, they will be able to form some conception of what the conditions are in Northern France, and Belgium, at Christmas time, and understand what the boys have to endure. The parcels sent forward are greatly appreciated, and they enable the authorities to gi re the men extra comforts at Christmas time As showing the mild and salubrious climate enjoyed by people who are fortunate enough to live in the vicinity ' of Grange road, Mr Walter Scott, of that locality, has, a plum tree out in full blossom. The chairman of tho Patriotic Committee (Mr C. H. Downing), on behalf of the residents, presented Bugler Jennings with an inscribed gold medal. 'ihe music was supplied by Mr J. E. Witham, extras being played by Mrs George Dixon and Misses J£. Nj Bowbyes and G. Shaw.

LADBROOKS. The fortnigntly euchre tournament and dance was lieJd in the Town Hail, tliere being a good attendance. Tiie rosults ot the tournament were:— Ladies, Ist prize Mis bpencer Cfai Tapu), booby Miss Uiive Watson; gentlemen, Ist .sir H. McGough, booby Mr E. Pickering. The music was supplied by Mr H. Meyer, and Mr A. Ca-bitas acted as M.C. i\lr and Mrs W. C. Hughes and family, of Cheviot, are on a visit to Ladbrooks. and are staying with Mr T. G. Fostor. DAR FIELD. Mr F. C. Kaphael's Christchurch Concert Party braved the elements on Friday night, travelling out iiore, and giving a concert in aid of the Y.M.C.A. Christmas Parcels Fund. There was a very largo attendance, which thoroughly appreciated tiie pluck of the party" in making the trip on such a wild" night. Tho members of the party who supplied the programme were:—Misses Cicely Audibert and Coralie Stanley, Messrs Leslie Cookson, A. F. Cade, Colin Campbell, F. W. Parker, and F. C. Raphael, and Miss Lilian Harper acted as accompanist. The concert yielded £50 for tho fund. The party were motored out by Messrs J. Hamlet and F. Black more.

ASHBURTON. A draft of about 25 Reservists for the CI Camp will leave Ashburton on Monday afternoon. Before leaving they will be entertained by the proprietors of the Ashburton Woollen Mills.
