MEETINGS AND SOCIALS.
POULTRYMEN'S SOCIAL. On Saturday evening Sir J. B. Merrett, who ha 3 just returned from Australia, was entertained in the Scottish Society Halt by the members of the Canterbury Egg Circle. Though the weather was very coid and wet, over sixty peoplo were present. A progressive euchre party resulted in Mr McHarg and Miss Fazackerley winning the prizes, Mrs Menzies and Private Grover. taking the consolation prizes, ifongs were contributed by Mibs Pearson and Private Sullivan. Miss Holland acted as accompanist. Mr Jones contributed the music for the dancing. Mr J. Liggins acting as M.C. Mr A. E. Kent, president of the Soci ty, said tbey could not let Mr Merrett return to their midst without showing him their deep appreciation of the work ne had done for the poultry industry. He welcomed their guest back, and esfcressed the hope that the holiday had improved his health and would enable him to take up his work with renewed vigour. Mr Childs, president of the New Zealand Poultry Association, paid a very high tribute to Mr Merrett's work, and said the poultry industry was fortunate in having such an organiser. In responding, Mr Merrett thanked his many friends for the. reception they had given- him. Time would not allow of his telling of what he had seen and learned in Australia, and the splendid way he had been entertained by the Government and poultry producers.
