a good war Record
"Several times," stated the Hon. Sir James Allen (Acting-Prime Minister and Minister of Defence,), "the question has been asked as to the New Zealand Staff Corps, whether they would be all sent to the war. When the war broke out the Now Zealand Staff Corps was 84 strong, and since that time seventeen carets, graduates of the Duntroom Military College, have been taken on the strength, bringing the total to 101. Of these 77 have embarked on active service, ten were transferred to the Royal New Zealand Ai-tillery and to active service, two were retained in New Zealand to fill special appointments, ten were retained as bejng unfit for active service, one was transferred to the New Zealand Ordnance Corps, and one was returned unfit for further service. Of the 77 who embarked or\ active service, twelvo were killed in afction, one died on service, 41 are still serving in •t'p Expeditionary Forces, nineteen have returned to New Zealand on duty, three have returned to New Zealand for retirement, one has been transferred to the Imperial Army. Of the officers who have returned, some havo again become fit for active service, and these will return to the Expeditionary Forces from time to time as suitable officers are found to fill their places. "Up to date the officers in the New Z n alnnd Staff Corps have been awarded 101 British and foreign decorations, an average of one cach."
