IMPERIAL WAR CONFERENCE.
DISAPPOINTING RESULTS. (By Coble.—Press Association.—Copyright.) * (United Servirv.i ' LONDON, July 20. Mr Massey states that tho Imperial Conference will conclude next week. The remaining matters are unimportalrt, except some sub-committees' reports. The goneral impression is that the result is disappointing. Little was done, but much is hoped from the "War Cabinet's sessions and tho round-table Premiers' meetings following the conference. OFFIC74L SUMMARY OF PROCEEDINGS. /PRESS «.r=OCIATIOV TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, July 22. The following telegraphic summary of the proceedings cf the -Imperial AVar Conference for tho week ended July 20th has been received by the GovernorGeneral from the Secretary of State for the Colonies:— The Imperial War Conference dealt with the question of the settlement of ex-service men, reaffirming the principle laid down at tho last Conference in favour of arrangements by which intending emigrants from tho United Kingdom may be induced to settlo in countries under the British flag. The Conference expressed the opinion that the representatives of the Dominions in the United Kingdom should keep in the closest touch with any new body established by his Majesty's Government to supervise emigration from the United Kingdom, ana that the appointment of a Consultative Committee, not exceeding ten members, on which representatives of the Dominions should sit to adrise any such body, would afford the best means of co-operation. The Conference, on the motion of Sir Joseph Ward, ■who brought forward the question at the last Conference, also passed a resolution on tho subject of cablo communications, emphasising the fieed ; in t-he highest interests of the Empire, for telegraphic rates being further materially reduced. A resolution was passed on the subject of an Imperial mineral resources bureau, the establishment of which was determined at the last Conference, dealing with the number of representatives on the governing body and the allocation of expenditure. The Conference also discussed the question of giving preference in Government contracts to Empire raw materials.
The temptations to oversea troops in this country was a matter also discussed, and the opinions indicated by the resolution passed at last year's conference as to the need for action were _ ' A motion by Mr W. M. Hughites, in favour of .the establishment of one Imperial Court of Appeal as the supreme tribunal for all appellants in all parts of the Empire wns discussed The other proceedings of the Conference, are confidential at present. ,
