Sir Francis Lloyd, in an interview 16 the "Christian Commonwealth, de* scribes the soldier of to-day as a credit to the Army and society, and pays a special tribute to tho conduct of the men in the London district. The pre-sent-day soldier is as good as, if not better than, the best the country has ever had. ' Surprising as it may seem, says Sir Francis, "the latest batches of men that I liavo had to deal with have developed into as line material as the earlier ones. I see no deterioration. Drawing men from all classes of the community has raised the whole standard as regards character and intelligence."
